Brief Background on our history in Power Sector in M.P and how we approached it: Isolators & Isolators (I&I) was set up in 1989 as a SSI under DIC Lady Entrepreneur Scheme in Bhopal. In the early part of its operations, we were an authorized ancillary of M.P.E.B. and were manufacturers of EHV Gr. Isolators, DO Fuses, AB’ Switches, Clamps and Connectors and Bi-metallic clamps and Panels. From 2003 onwards, we entered into a contract with M.P.E.B. to repair Distribution transfers (25 KVA to 200 KVA). Along with M.P.E.B we have supplied our products to B.H.E.L. as well. With this experience, we developed light manufacturing capabilities and from 2006 until 2009 and we manufactured Distribution Transformers (25 KVA to 200 KVA) which we sold on a retail basis with rural farmers as our primary customer base. In the 1st half of 2010, Government of M.P. passed an order that forbade the transformer manufacturers to sell directly to farmers, and hence as a result our complete retail customer base was eroded. At the same time, Government of India issued notifications that henceforth the distribution transformers would follow Energy Efficiency standards (like Air Conditioners for e.g.). We took a strategic decision to invest further into developing deep manufacturing expertise to make distribution transformers complying with global standards of performance. These needed funds and so initially we expanded our services profile to improve the financials of the firm so that we can make significant investments in the future.
By FY 2014-15, we developed our first distribution transformer models of 25 KVA and 100KVA ratings and sent to BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) for 3 ratings, which we got by the end of FY 14-15. Since then we have begun supplying the transformers to MP State. Discom and other Turnkey Project Suppliers in the state of MP and Maharashtra. In 2015, Government of India Mandated transformer manufacturing firms to under BIS Certifications (similar to ISI certifications) and Isolators & Isolators was among the first 85 firms ALL over India to obtain BIS Certifications. Today Isolators & Isolators is one of the few firms in the country to have a 5 Star BIS license to manufacture Distribution Transformers up to 200 KVA Ratings.

Sandhya is probably the 1st lady proprietor of an engineering firm in the state of MP. She founded ‘Isolators and Isolators’ in 1989 – a transformer repairing firm in Bhopal. She was born in Kannod, a small village in MP, and despite coming from a very conservative background she went on to become the 1stgirl in her village to complete college education. From her childhood she had an independent mind and she always wanted to do something bigger and better than others. However she got married soon after college and could not fulfill her dreams then. A few years later in 1988, she went ahead and appeared in an entrepreneurship exam that was sponsored by govt. of MP. She was selected for this from approx. 10000 other women. Getting encouraged by her performance she decided to set up an engineering firm, as she wanted to do something bigger and better than others. Under the “Lady Entrepreneurship Scheme”, she set up her company. She has endured the ups and downs of manufacturing business (infrastructure issues, labor issues, red tape, financing issues) in the last 30 years and has managed to grow despite all the challenges she faced. Today, her company supplies to and services transformers for M.P. State Electricity Board with an annual turnover of over 2.5 Cr per year (last FY).
Aditya did his Masters of Engineering (Electrical) in 1976 and then joined Bhopal REC as a lecturer. In 1979 he joined MP State Electricity Board and spent over 32 years in power industry in M.P. He retired from MP Madhya Kshetra Discom retired as Superintendent Engineer in 2010. He began his career with and then spent over 12.years in 400 KV electrical substation design, construction, and testing and project management. Then for the next 16 years, he worked in distribution system operation and maintenance (up to 33 KV level) revenue management, customer relationship management, administration and consulting senior management. He has complete command on the management processes and benchmarks involved in implementation of power projects from a Discom point of view. With this experience, he joined Isolators after his retirement in 2010. In the last 10 years, he has taken the primary responsibility of the technical side of the business and is managing the design and development of prototypes, ensuring certifications for the firm as per BIS / BEE standards and is ensuring the complete quality control on the production side and from the suppliers.
